Vrsaljko has anterior cruciate ligament damage, Atlético reveal
Croatian full-back Sime Vrsaljko was forced off after just a minute of Atlético Madrid's LaLiga week 28 win over Sevilla on Sunday. Atlético vs Real Madrid
Atlético Madrid have confirmed that right-back Sime Vrsaljko suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage in Sunday afternoon's 3-1 LaLiga victory over Sevilla.
Taken off in opening moments of Sevilla win
The Croatia international had to be replaced by Juanfran with just a minute on the clock at the Calderón after injuring himself in a challenge with Sergio Escudero.
And after a scan in Madrid, the club released a medical report stating that Vrsaljko "suffers an injury that affects the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee."
Atlético added that further tests would be carried out on the 25-year-old, who will not now join up with his national side for the games against Ukraine and Estonia.
Vrsaljko had been gradually working his way into Simeone’s first-team plans following his 13-million-euro move from Sassuolo last summer, starting six of the last seven matches and making 25 appearances overall this season.
Unwelcome record for Vrsaljko
On Sunday he picked up an unwanted record: according to Mister Chip, no starter has ever played less time in a fixture for Atlético in the history of LaLiga.
