Juan Carlos Valerón to join Las Palmas' technical team
Miguel Ángel Ramírez confirmed that the former player will have a role within the coaching staff next season regardless of who replaces Quique Setién as coach.
Las Palmas president Miguel Ángel Ramírez confirmed on Radio Marca this morning that Juan Carlos Valerón will be part of the first team coaching staff, regardless of who comes in to replace outgoing coach Quique Setién.
Valerón, studying for his coach papers
Valerón is currently studying for his coaching licence at the RFEF in Madrid, will take his first steps in coaching which, for various reasons, hasn't happened in the current campaign under Setién. What Las Palmas have yet to determine is whether Valerón will act an assistant coach or be handed another role.
Marcelino linked to Las Palmas post
Several names have been mentioned as Setién's replacement. AS understands that former Villarreal coach Marcelino and his agent Eugenio Botas met with the islanders but details of that meeting have not been disclosed. Ramírez said that the incoming coach will "be an advocate of attractive football and will improve the areas of the team which we consider need enhancing. Whoever we bring in doesn't have to be a well-known coach".
