He joined Real Zaragoza in 1995
He made his debut for Zaragoza against Betis in September 1995.
In the summer of 1997 he signed for Real Madrid, th club where he would spend the next seven seasons.

With Madrid, Morientes won the Spanish league twice and the Champions League three times.
In his first season, he ended as the team's top scorer in the league with 12 goals, and kept Davor Suker out of the first team.
He scored a decisive opener, breaking the deadlock against Valencia in the Champions League final in Paris in 2000
