British Olympian Germaine Mason dies in motorcycle crash
Mason, who won silver in the 2008 Olympics for Great Britain, died following a crash in Kingston, Jamaica. Usain Bolt was among the first on the scene.
Germaine Mason, the Jamaica-born British high jumper died this morning following a motorcycle crash in Kingston, Jamaica. He was 34 years old.
Bolt on the scene
According to Jamaican newspaper The Gleaner, Usain Bolt was one of several athletes that arrived on the scene immediately after the crash, which occured on the Palisadoes road in Kingston.
Beijing Olympics medallist
Although born in Jamaica, Mason switched his allegiance to Britain in 2006, which he was able to do courtesy of his London-born father.
Two years later, he went on to win the silver medal for the high jump at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Jamaican Prime Minister Tweets condolences
Andrew Holness, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, took to Twitter to express his sadness at Mason's death.
"Our sincere condolences to the entire sporting fraternity", he wrote.
