NFL contributing significant amounts to Tottenham Hotspurs' new stadium

The Premier League side are building a new stadium and have been helped out by the NFL with the hopes of improving their international market.

According to a report on ESPNFC, the NFL are helping to fund Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium and have contributed almost €12 million to the project so far.

The 61,000-seater stadium, which will cost close to a billion euro in total, is set to be finished in time for the 2018-19 season and the NFL will play at least two games a year at the new ground. They have signed a 10-year contract ensuring this is the case and the American football league will also pay the club a fee for every game.

The report also says that the new stadium will boast a "retractable synthetic surface, set beneath the grass pitch" which will be used for NFL games and other events such as concerts.

NFL Executive vice president of international, Mark Waller, said last year that, "One of the idle thoughts we have at the moment is would you really be able to play an NFL game and an EPL (English Premier League) game on the same day as a double header?"

Daniel Levy added, "I don't think it's something we'd want to try our first game, but that is certainly realistic. How exciting the idea of having the two biggest leagues in the world from a television perspective - fantastic - play on the same day.”

The NFL season runs from the start of September with the regular season wrapping up at the start of the new year meaning a double header is feasible.

It might not be long until Tottenham Hotspur fans are cheering on goals from Harry Kane and touchdowns from Tom Brady in the same afternoon while sipping on a Miller Lite and a pie, or lager and a hot dog.
