Zidane: "We're disappointed, but we're not distraught"

Zinedine Zidane gave his reaction to the 2-3 defeat to Barça in last night's Clásico at the Bernabéu and couldn't hide his disappointment.

How are you feeling? “Bad”.

What conclusions have you reached about the game? “We can't feel happy with the oputcome because we did everything we could during the whole game. We had chances to score, to put the game in our command but when you don't kill the game off this can happen. And it did. We are very disappointed with the result. When you manage to pull level, with the score at 2-2, and on 10 men, you have got to use your head more and defend together as a team. So I can't be happy with the game. It should have turned out differently”.

Madrid played with their hearts not the heads, says Zidane

I what ways did Madrid fail to handle the game properly when the score was at 2-2? “Because we are so positive, we thought we could score a third goal. We were caught out of position from a throw-in and paid the price. Now I have to sit down and watch the game again, but it's not going to change anything. The league is back on,and we have to start thinking about our next game”.

Why couldn't Madrid stop Messi? “He's a decisive player who makes a reak difference for his team, he scored twice again. But it wasn't only Messi - we also failed to control the moments when we could have punished them”.

The league still depends on what results Madrid get

Does the league still depend on Real Madrid? “There is still a lot of league games left to play. But we are relaxed about the situation. The only thing we can do is focus on Wednesday's game and try to pick up points (against Deportivo)”.

Could Madrid pay a heavy price for this defeat? “No. It could happen but it's not going to change the way we are playing. Tonight we played against a great opponent and now we have to rest and look ahead to the next game. The league depends on us and we are going to remain positive right up until the end”.

Do you regret playing Bale? “No. He told me he was fine and he was excited about playing the match so I don't regret anything. I'm upset for him, I thought he was ok. We can't control these things. We'll see what kind of injury he has. I hope it's nothing serious”.
