Juventus' comprehensive win over Barcelona in the Champions League quarter final could signal the end of Gigi Buffon's 21-year carrer. The legendary Juventus goalkeeper told Sky Sport that he has been seriously considering retiring from the game and made a promise to himself before the quarter final meeting with Barça: "I said that if I couldnot concede a single goal over both legs of the tie against Barcelona, it would be the right thing to retire from the game in June - and I said that to [Juventus president, Giovanni] Agnelli", Buffon confessed. But the keeper got a very fothright response from the president.: "He told me, 'Sometimes people talk a lot of nonsense; don't worry about anything and keep looking forward'. It was good advice".
Buffon pondering retirement plans
The 39-year-old, who will feature in Wednesday's Champions League semi-final against Monaco, looked back over his brilliant career - one which, according to some commentators should be allowed to come to its natural end after next year's World Cup finals in Russia: "I did a quick calculation. I started out playing alongside players who were born in the 1970s, and I will retire playing alongside those born in the 2000s. So in one way, I will have spanned four decades trying to stay at the top of my game and not fading away. My biggest sense of pride is that I've managed to do that", Buffon concluded.
