Theo Hernández: Barça remain behind Real Madrid in chase
19-year-old starlet Theo has his heart set on joining Real, despite Barcelona bettering Los Blancos' contract offer for the French left-backBarcelona vs Valencia: Copa del Rey semi-final 17/18
Barcelona representatives again met with Theo Hernández's agent a few days ago. At the meeting in Soria, northern Spain, Los Azulgranas confirmed their wage offer for the services of the Atlético Madrid left-back, who has been a revelation on loan at Alavés: a six-year deal paying 3.5 million euros net a season.
Theo unmoved by Barcelona offering more than Real Madrid
However, Manuel García Quilón made it plain that, at present, Theo is determined to go through with the verbal agreement he has with Real Madrid and sign for Los Blancos, who have put a five-year contract on the table worth a pre-tax total of 35m.
That offer was first equalled, then bettered by Barça.
Hernández's advisers are at pains to stress to the defender that, with Marcelo currently Real's nailed-on first choice at left-back, he'll have a better chance of regular game time at Barcelona, where Jordi Alba's future remains uncertain.
Barcelona have managed to keep Real deal verbal
So far, the Catalan club have only managed to persuade the 19-year-old not to put pen to paper on anything with Real. Their strategy is focused on getting the youngster to take time to reflect on his decision and - they hope - change his mind.
But Barcelona's cause is not aided by the fact that Luis Enrique's replacement in the Camp Nou dugout has not yet been determined. A call giving the Frenchman a direct vote of confidence would help their attempts to secure him.
For now, the issue remains unresolved, with Real Madrid confident of Hernández keeping his word, maintaining the desire he has thus far shown to wear the white shirt, and sealing his arrival at the Santiago Bernabéu in writing.
