Real Madrid contacted Alético Madrid two weeks ago to negotiate the transfer of the Atleti player Theo Hernández, currently on loan at Alavés. The player's buy-out clause is 24 million euros, however Atleti boss Miguel Angel Gil Marín requested 30 million from Real Madrid.

Atlético angry with Real Madrid over Theo transfer

José Ángel Sánchez, general manager of Real Madrid, talked to Gil Marin to tell him that the Bernabéu club were indeed interested in the defender, with the news that the player and the club were in talks having already leaked out.

Real Madrid break agreement with Atleti

Atlético Madrid executives communicated their annoyance that Real Madrid had broken their agreement to notify the other club first when keen on any player (Atleti, for example, did so last year, communicating their desire to land Morata for 30 million euros). However, having indicated their anger at the situation, Atleti's bosses, seeing that the player was determined to move, decided to try and squeeze more money out of the situation, something they appear to have done.

Atlético tell Real Madrid to wait until after the Champions League

Real Madrid got in touch with Atlético Madrid again this morning, with news breaking that Theo had passed his medical with Real Madrid, to confirm the deal. Atlético have told them they'll have to wait until Thursday, after the two sides play the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at the Calderón on Wednesday night (the first leg finished 3-0 in favour of Zidane's side).

Real Madrid will pay 30 million euros for Theo

Sources at Atlético Madrid say they are convinced Madrid will pay the 30 million euros agreed for the Atleti academy player. Why? Because if Real Madrid try to pay just the buy-out clause, Atleti will report Madrid to FIFA for failing to stick to what was agreed verbally. Atlético aren't just annoyed at Real Madrid for breaking the pact between the clubs, but also at their rivals for carrying out Theo's medical today, Monday, just before their Champions League match.

Atlético tried to avoid Theo moving to Real Madrid

Atlético Madrid first tried to improve Theo's deal to get him to stay (or at least increase his buy-out) and when that failed they spoke to Barcelona, Liverpool and an as yet unnamed German team to try and avoid the player moving across Madrid to the Bernabéu. However the player himself was decided, and in the end he'll be going to Real Madrid for 30 million euros.
