More quarterfinalists have been confirmed after Monday’s games, as the knockout stage intensifies and surprises continue to unfold.


The 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage is now well underway, with several Round of 16 clashes already decided and the quarterfinal picture beginning to take shape.
Saturday and Sunday’s action delivered major storylines, including Morocco’s dominant win over Canada, France edging Paraguay, and a shock result as Norway knocked out Brazil. England also joined the final eight after a thrilling victory over Mexico.
On Monday, the Spain vs. Portugal rivalry continued with Spain coming out on top, sending Cristiano Ronaldo packing in his last ever World Cup. Later, the USMNT had their dreams of getting past the Round of 16 dashed once again with a 4-1 rout by the Belgians.

Teams that have advanced to the Quarterfinals
The following teams have officially booked their places in the Quarterfinals:
- Morocco
- France
- Norway
- England
- Spain
- Belgium
Morocco produced one of the standout performances of the round so far, comfortably dispatching Canada 3-0. France was made to work for their place, narrowly beating Paraguay 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter.
The biggest upset came as Norway stunned Brazil with a 2-1 victory, ending the South American giants’ hopes earlier than expected. England also progressed in dramatic fashion, defeating Mexico 3-2 in a high-scoring clash.

Spain edged past Portugal in a tense Iberian showdown, securing a 1-0 victory thanks to a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Mikel Merino. The tightly contested match looked destined for extra time before the late breakthrough, which ultimately sent Spain into the quarter-finals and brought an emotional end to Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup campaign.
Belgium, meanwhile, produced one of the most dominant performances of the round, cruising to a 4-1 win over the United States. Charles De Ketelaere starred with two goals as the Europeans capitalized on defensive errors, while Romelu Lukaku added a late strike to seal the result and book Belgium’s place in the quarter-finals.
