Diego Costa came to the mixed zone after the Spain and Colombia draw in Murcia with news that he could be on the way out of Chelsea. The striker said, "I received a simple message from the boss on my phone and he said he is not counting on me for next season. It has to be because I have done badly this year. It's a shame. I have already forwarded it to people at the club for them to decide, but come on, it is obvious that I'm not in the manager's plans and he doesn't want me there. I am on the market and I will look for a new team. If the manager doesn't want you there, you have to leave no matter what. To return to Atletico would be nice but there is a lot to think about. There is a World Cup to think of. I need to play. To not play for four or five months is complicated but the people know that I love my teammates at Atletico very much, I loved living in Madrid."
Costa has been a long-time target for Cholo Simeone, almost since he left the club at the end of their title-winning season in 2013-14. A deal that would bring Costa back to Atletico was almost done last summer but Atletico did not wait and they bought Kevin Gameiro instead meaning he stayed put at Chelsea.
Costa signed autographs for fans before being asked agains. "We'll see," was his response when asked again about a reunion at Atletico with Simeone. China could be the pitstop and he could play in the second half of the China Super League before finishing there in November and moving to Atletico. Simeone and Costa:, the dream fulfulled.
