MÁLAGA

Málaga consider Swansea's Borja Baston as a replacement for Sandro

There has already been contact between the clubs and given Baston's lack of games this season with Swansea, they are hoping for an agreement.

Málaga are hoping to know more about Sandro's future soon with a move to Everton looking likely. Much of Málaga's preseason depends on the striker and trying to plan for the future without knowing the fate of your star player can be a tricky process. The club have spent the last number of weeks, however, planning without him in the case that he does leave and they have lined up former Atletico Madrid and Eibar striker Borja Baston as a possible replacement.

Francesc Arnau, Málaga's sporting director, initiated contact with the striker a couple of days ago. Baston played in 20 games for Swansea last season and accumulated just 683 minutes in total. 18 of those games were in the Premier League and he started just four times, scoring one goal.

Málaga re hoping for a loan deal and the negotiations are currently a work in progress. It would not be a simple process as the Welsh club dished out a large chunk of change to land the striker last summer to the tune of €18 million. Arnau has the will of the player as a bargaining tool and Baston has reportedly said he likes the idea of playing at La Rosaleda.

Mariano remains a complicated option

Arnau remains interested in Mariano Diaz for the last three transfer windows and he is still a target albeit a very complicated one. In Málaga, they consider it almost impossible but are unwilling to close the door entirely on the striker. Relations with Real Madrid are excellent but the league title holders are holding out for a deal more in line with that of Diego Llorente to Real Sociedad as a transfer with the option to buy-back the player. Mariano has plenty of suitors and Málaga is not all that high on his list. The Andalusian club are keen to bring in two strikers this summer regardless of how Sandro's situation plays out. Baston remains the objective and Mariano remains a dream.
