Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo stated that Saúl Ñíguez will remain at the club, and also spoke about Costa, Ibrahimovic, and Theo Hernández.

Cerezo: Saúl won't be going anywhere

Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo spoke to the press at the opening of a new metro stop outside the Wanda Metropolitano, where the club will play next season.

Speaking alongside Pedro Rollán, the director of Madrid Community Transport, Cerezo said “I want to thank the Metro and the Madrid local authority. We are here in a big, open station that will allow Atlético fans to get to the Wanda Metropolitano without traffic.”

Saúl 'won't be going anywhere'

The questions quickly turned to transfers, and Atlético midfielder Saúl Ñíguez, following his sensational hat-trick for the Spain Under 21 team against Italy on Tuesday, which secured La Rojita a place in the final against Germany.

“Saúl is a very good player and he has a long-term contract at Atlético. Are you going to ask me about him every summer? We’ll put up with it. I don’t think he has any agreements with other clubs, or anything like that. Saúl is at Atleti, and he won’t be going anywhere.”

Atleti have spoken to Ibrahimovic's family

Cerezo also spoke about Diego Costa, who is angling for a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Atlético his preferred destination.

“Well if he comes to Madrid, he’ll use the Metro,” Cerezo joked, “The problem is that we can’t sign players. If that wasn’t the case, we would be delighted to try and improve the team a little.”

As for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has also been linked to the club, Cerezo stated that “we have spoken with his family, but not with him.” This corroborates a statement by Ibrahimovic's cousin on Tuesday.

Theo a Madridista? Each to their own.

The Atlético president responded to statements from Theo Hernández that it has always been a dream of his to play for Real Madrid.

“I’ve got no idea [if he’s a Madrid fan]. Everyone has their own hopes and dreams. He’s a great player, even though he hasn’t played a great deal with us.”
