Paris Saint-Germain's Marco Verratti has publicly apologised for his agent's comments on the Ligue 1 club's refusal to sell the midfielder to Barcelona.

Speaking in the Italian media this week, Donato Di Campli launched an astonishing attack on PSG's Qatari owners, describing Verratti as "a prisoner of the emir".

However, his client on Friday gave a statement in which he sought to distance himself from the remarks, saying they are "not my way of thinking".

Verratti's statement in full:

"We have had some difficult days. I also saw another statement from my agent this morning. I wanted to say to everyone that it's not my way of thinking, not my words. He works for me, and I want to apologise to the club, the fans, the people who work here.

"We have started pre-season training, and I'm very happy to start another one and get back to the club, my team-mates, my coach and everyone. I know the club has great faith in me. Once again, I would like to apologise. You know I don't talk a lot and that I have a lot of respect for the club.

"I've been here for five years. If I have become a good player, it's thanks to Paris Saint-Germain, who believed in me at the start. That's why I'm apologising. He was mistaken with his statement.

"As I said, it's not my way of thinking. I hope something like this won't happen again. We want everyone to be calm. Here, I have always been at 100%. I will continue to give my best for the club."
