Morata: Chelsea agree terms with Real Madrid
The Premier League and LaLiga clubs have confirmed that they have agree terms for a transfer that will see Álvaro Morata move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea and Real Madrid have agreed terms for the transfer of Álvaro Morata to Stamford Bridge. Both clubs communicated the news on Wednesday evening through their official websites.
Morata will move for €80m
Neither club disclosed the fee, yet AS understands that the Spanish striker will move for a fee of €80m, with a further €5m in add ons. Morata will sign a 5-year contract and will earn €9m (net) per year.
Earlier in the transfer window, Morata had attempted to secure a move to Manchester United in time to begin pre-season with Jose Mourinho’s team. He even returned to Madrid from his honeymoon in an attempt to accelerate negotiations. Real Madrid’s rigid negotiating position meant that the move did not materialise, and the Red Devils opted instead for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.
Lack of opportunities at Real Madrid
Morata has been training with his Madrid team-mates in Los Angeles, but with his eyes firmly set on securing a move away from the Bernabéu that would enable him to play more minutes. The former-Juventus striker, who was the subject of interest from AC Milan, is clearly of the opinion that Antonio Conte will give him the minutes he desires.
Real Madrid will not sign a replacement striker in light of this news, with Zinedine Zidane confident in the depth he currently possesses in that position. Borja Mayoral is expected to play a greater role for Los Blancos in the coming LaLiga season.
