Real Madrid are to launch a bid to sign France international Ousmane Dembélé from Borussia Dortmund, according to Spanish radio station Onda Cero.
The broadcaster states that Dembélé has been identified as the club’s primary target in the summer window due to the elevated cost of Monaco’s Kylian Mbappé and that Madrid have made preliminary contact with the player.
Barça and Madrid in the Dembélé business
After Neymar’s departure from Barcelona – if it finally goes through – Real are finding their interests conflicting with those of Barça. The Camp Nou club have also expressed an interest in the 20-year-old, despite Dembélé stating in Bild last week: “I am not interested in speculation; I am happy at Dortmund.”
However, Madrid have a trick up their sleeve in the shape of Pedja Mijatovic. The former Real player is on friendly terms with Dembélé’s agent and had a hand in the deal that took the forward from Rennes to Dortmund in 2016.
Dortmund are not eager to lose a prize asset though and will not make any transfer easy for Madrid or Barça, valuing Dembélé at between 90 and 100 million euros.
