The Spanish Super Cup, played out between the Liga champions and the winner of the Copa del Rey, was concluded in the early hours of Thursday morning with Real Madrid running out 2-0 winners. This meant a very convincing 5-1 aggregate scoreline following events the previous Sunday at the Camp Nou.
Cristiano and Messi: club talismen
Although only present for the final stages of the first leg - and suspended for the second due to his, and the referee's, actions - Cristiano Ronaldo is still seen as the club talisman. Barcelona's main man over recent years, Lionel Messi, had a relatively quiet night at the Bernabéu, coming closest to scoring for his side just before the hour mark when his shot rebounded off the underside of the bar.
