EuroBasket: Pau Gasol becomes all-time leading scorer
Gasol overtook France's Tony Parker in Thursday's Group C win over Hungary, scoring 20 points to reach a record career total of 1,111.
Pau Gasol has become the all-time leading scorer in EuroBasket history, reaching a career tournament total of 1,111 points in Spain's win over Hungary on Thursday.
Gasol overtakes France's Parker against Hungarians
The 37-year-old, who has been top scorer at three editions of the competition (2003, 2009 and 2015), notched up 20 points in the Spaniards' 87-64 preliminary-round victory to overtake Frenchman Tony Parker's haul of 1,104.
Needing 14 to claim the record, Gasol moved past Parker with a three-pointer in the second quarter as Spain maintained their 100% record at EuroBasket 2017.
The holders came into the clash already through to the knockout stages, having assured themselves of Group C top spot by beating Croatia on Tuesday.
Three times a EuroBasket gold-medal winner
Gasol first appeared at EuroBasket back in 2001, and has helped Spain to victory in the tournament on three occasions, in 2009, 2011 and 2015.
The San Antonio Spurs star, formerly of Barcelona, Memphis Grizzlies, LA Lakers and Chicago Bulls, is also a two-time EuroBasket MVP winner (2009 and 2015).
