Ignacio Iglesias Villanueva to take charge in Anoeta
With the Galician official in the middle Real Madrid have never lost: 14 wins and two draws to Sociedad's nine wins, seven draws and seven defeats.
Real Madrid face a tricky away trip at Anoeta when they take on Real Sociedad on Sunday (20:45 CET) in a game that will be officiated by Ignacio Iglesias Villanueva.
The visitors have never lost a game with Iglesias Villanueva on the whistle and there is no serving referee on LaLiga’s books under which the Bernabéu side has profited more often. With the Galician official in charge, Real have played 14 Liga matches and two Copa del Rey fixtures, winning 14 and drawing two.
Only José María Sánchez Martínez comes close to matching Iglesias Villanueva’s numbers when taking charge of Madrid: the Murcian man in the middle has refereed eight games involving Los Blancos, with six wins and two draws (his most recent match was the Spanish Super Cup match against Barcelona, which ended 2-0).
Real Madrid 4 - 3 Real Sociedad in 2012-13
The last match Iglesias Villanueva officiated involving Madrid was the 4-0 victory over Granada in Los Cármenes against Granada last season, one of the most incident-free of the season for the referee. He also has experience of overseeing a Madrid-Sociedad game: in 2012-13 he was in charge for Real’s 4-3 victory in the Bernabéu, when he sent off Madrid keeper Antonio Adán in the sixth minute.
For Real Sociedad the balance under Igelsias Villanueva isn’t as encouraging: nine wins, seven draws and seven defeats in 23 games, with five players sent off to Madrid’s two in 16.
