Diego Costa says goodbye to pals in Brazil and heads to Spain

Having bid his farewells to the friends who have surrounded him this summer, Costa is on his way to Spain to rejoin Atlético Madrid.

Diego Costa has got his wish: a deal between Atlético Madrid and Chelsea has been confirmed, and he is returning to Spain to play for the LaLiga club. On Thursday morning, Costa spent his final moments in his native Brazil with his friends before bidding his farewells and setting off for the Spanish capital.

They have all been in it together: Costa has a large group of pals in his home city of Lagarto, with whom we've seen him let his hair down and play games of football, and who have shared with him this period of uncertainty over his future.

The striker is now on his way to Madrid, where he is set to undergo a medical before completing a move back to Atlético and getting himself ready to return to action in January. He has defied a club of the size of Chelsea, the tension has at times been palpable, but the final outcome is what he had hoped it would be.
