Cristiano Ronaldo sends 'a huge hug' to those affected by Mexico earthquake

The Portuguese sent the message of support via Twitter, with a special mention of Santiago Flores, a six-year-old fan of Ronaldo who died following the earthquake.

Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a message of support to the people affected by the earthquake in Mexico last week. 

Ronaldo tweets support to Mexico

The Real Madrid star posted the following message on Twitter:

"In this moment of pain, I send a huge hug to the family of Santiago and to all of the families who have lost their loved ones."

The specific mention of 'Santiago' refers to Santiago Flores, a six-year-old fan of Ronaldo who was killed in his school, the Colegio Enrique Rébsamen, after the earthquake struck.

Santiago Flores' aunt writes touching message

Following his tragic death, Santiago's admiration for the Portuguese has become well known. 

"Thank you for having been his inspiration, he already played football and wanted to be like you," said Santiago's aunt on social media, "He watched your matches and celebrated like you. Today he is an angel, taking care of us from heaven. For the heart, thank you for being an inspiration to so many."

Ronaldo accompanied his message with a picture of a signed shirt, with the message: "For my number 1 fan Santiago, with much love."
