Cristiano waiting for Real Madrid's reply over new contract

During the summer, Real Madrid promised to revise and improve the forward's contract. “My contract? That's a question for the president”, he told Susana Guash.

Cristiano gave an enigmatic response to a question over his proposed contract renewal from presenter Susana Guasch after Tuesday's game against Borussia Dortmund: “That's a good question, perhaps the president would know how to give a better reply than me”, said the Portuguese ace, leaving the ball in Florentino Pérez's court.

Madrid promised to revise Cristiano's contract

During the summer, just a few days after Madrid lost out on signing Kylian Mbappé, the Madrid president gave his word that Cristiano's contract would be reviewed and improved - a move designed to calm the player during a worrying tax fraud case in which authorities accuse him of defrauding the public treasury of 14,768,897 euros. Matters didn't improve when Portuguese daily A Bola reported that Cristiano was seriously considering leaving Real Madrid and Spain. The club reacted by trying to cool the situation, with the offer of a modest improvement to his current contract. At the moment, Cristiano takes home 21 million euros after tax. Madrid's intention was to raise the player's salary to a maximum of 25 million, no more.

Cristiano's salary demands

However, that doesn't seem to meet Cristiano's own expectations - he wants to take home a similar pay packet to the one Neymar receives at PSG and to Messi's; in other words, between 30 and 40 million. Should Madrid be unwilling to meet that figure, Cristiano feels that his contract would be better left as it is. Cristiano's proposal has been met by silence from the club.
