Sergio Ramos questions Gerard Piqué tweet on Catalonia
Spain's national team captain gave his opinion about the social media message from his teammate saying that it was not going to help the whistling from fans.
Real Madrid and Spanish national team captain Sergio Ramos has given his opinion on a tweet by his compatriot, Gerard Piqué, who had commented on the heated debate regarding Catalonia potentially going ahead with a referendum on independence on Sunday 1 October. The Spanish government believe the election to be illegal.
Ramos suggests Piqué tweet unhelpful
"The tweet by Piqué is not the best if he doesn't want them [the fans] to whistle," said the Madrid man.
"As captain I think about the good atmosphere in the national team group; Piqué will know what he said. Maybe it wasn't the moment, nor will it help."
Sergio Ramos was speaking while in attendance at a fashion event in the Spanish capital on Thursday along with club teammates Lucas Vázquez and Nacho.
Piqué calls for peaceful expression
Earlier in the day Piqué had posted a message on his Twitter account:
"From today and until Sunday, let us express ourselves peacefully. Let's not give them any excuse. That is what they want. And let's sing loud and strong. #wewillvote."
