MUNDIAL 2018
'La Roja' fail to secure top seeding ahead of WC 2018 draw
Portugal, France and Argentina's qualification for the tournament means Lopegtegui's men will be placed in Pot 2 for the December 1st draw.
The Spanish national team will not be among the top eight seeded teams for the 2018 World Cup draw which is set to take place in Moscow on December 1st.
With the conclusion of the qualifying stage in Europe, Asia and America the series of results mean that the top seeds will be: host nation Russia, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Belgium, Pôland, Argentina and France.
Stars fail to align
Results conspired to go against Lopetegui's interests last night with Portugal beating Switzerland and France beating Belarus.
The sequence of results in the COMNEBOL group did no favours either for Spain's task with Chile losing to Brazil, Perú failing to beat Colombia and Argentina overcoming Ecuador.
Spain are set to be the eight team when the next FIFA ranking listing is published on Monday but with the host nation always being seeded (Russia are currently ranked at No. 64th), "La Roja" will be in the second tier when te draw is made.
