Zinedine Zidane spoke to the press after his side’s last-gasp victory over Getafe in the Coliseum, where Cristiano Ronaldo popped up with his first goal of the season in timely fashion as the champions won a tight contest 2-1.

It was important that Cristiano got off the mark. We’ll see where it goes from here but I’m happy for him and Benzema. I’m also to have Marcelo and Theo back. I hope soon we’ll have everybody back fit. We started well, with the necessary intensity. We created chances and we scored. Then, for a 15-minute period we relaxed a little. It’s a 90-minute game and we can score at any moment. Those 10 minutes at the start of the second half cost us but Isco came on and gave the pass for the second goal.”

Zidane also touched on his policy of rotation and the toll of the international break on his squad: “Many of the players went to play important games [with their national teams]. Others stayed here and trained well. We need all of them. It’s true that over the course of 90 minutes we had 10 difficult ones but that happens. We have six games coming up and we have to keep an eye on the amount of time those coming back from injury are playing.”

The victory was Zidane’s 100th game in charge of Real Madrid and also served to beat Barcelona’s record of 12 consecutive away wins in La Liga. “I haven’t changed at all. I’m always the same. It’s better to win the 100th game though, that’s for sure. It’s a nice memory.”
