Atlético Madrid players were an hour and a half late to the mixed zone after the game against Villarreal at the Wanda on Saturday evening. The home side took the lead in the second half only for some sloppy defending to allow Villarreal to equalise late on. Atético remain unbeaten in the league but their form has taken a severe dip in recent weeks with just one win in seven games.
Diego Simeone addressed the media after the game but no player appeared until 21:55, and an hour and a half after the game.
Eventually, Angel Correa, Atlético's goal scorer appeared to speak about the game and the reason given for being so late was that they were partaking in recovery exercises so as not to have to train on Sunday. The substitutes, however, will train as scheduled.
