Del Bosque: "I feel culpable for Munir not being able to represent Morocco".
The Salamanca born coach gave a debut to Munir in 2014 and those 13 minutes with Spain mean the Alaves player cannot represent Morocco.
Munir El Haddadi has ambitions to represent Morocco at the forthcoming World Cup in Russia but a FIFA regulation means his 13 minutes with Spain in 2004 make him ineligible to wear the green and red of Morocco.
The player was born in the Madrid based town of San Lorenzo del Escorial to Moroccan parents and played with Spain under Vicente del Bosque in September 2014 as Spain overcame Macedonia (5-1) in a Euro 2016 qualifying group game. Munir played for 13 minutes with the Spanish team and has yet to get a call back for international action.
Del Bosque guilt
Del Bosque, speaking about the predicament stated: “I think it's a tricky situation as we gave him his international debut and I would have liked to see more flexibility from those in power. He was with the U-21 side and we had an injury problem with Diego Costa so we called him up. I feel guilty as it was me who offered him playing time with 'La Roja' claimed the now retired coach in a promotional event at the Spanish FA headquarters.
“I fail to understand why that brief spell with the Spanish side is impacting me now", stated Munir speaking to Moroccan outlet Assabah. The Moroccan FA have claimed on many instances their interested in the services of the striker.
Their may be a ray of light in this episode after declarations from FIFA vice-president Victor Montagliani: "The world is changing and immigration is changing the world with issues of nationality a situation to look at especially in the African, Asian and CONCACAF federations. It may be time to revise the laws without compromising too much on the integrity of the game".
