We all know full well that football is brimming with injustices, but that doesn't mean we should get used to them and stop calling them out. This is precisely why I feel the need to defend Keylor Navas: a great goalkeeper who has been undervalued and underappreciated since joining Real Madrid.
Undoubtedly, this is because he doesn't have support in different corners of the media, and because he never complains. A case in point: before last year's Champions League final I remember hearing more praise for Gianluigi Buffon than Navas in Spain, yet when it came down to it the only truly decisive goalkeeper on the pitch was Navas, who denied Pjanic with the scoreboard at 0-0.
A serial winner
The Madrid keeper's mettle and steel are terrific and enable him to rise above any crisis, injury or criticism. Moreover, he has that knack of reaching peak form at the right time, in pivotal moments, knowing that he has the backing of the Real coach, who believes in his talent and work-rate. Despite the incessant talk of bringing in another keeper, Madrid keep on winning trophies with Keylor between the sticks.
