Jorge Mendes gave evidence this morning via video-conference in Porto as the Pozuelo court in the Madrid suburbs listened to the defense put forward by the 51-year-old football agent.

The Spanish inland revenue agency (Hacienda) are demanding 14.7 million euro plus interest from Crstianio Ronaldo and Mendes advocated that he had "nothing to do" with the matters being investigated and deflected responsibility on the situation to contracted lawyers and accountants. After giving evidence, Mendes left Porto catching a Paris bound flight where he will attend this evening's Ballon d'Or gala award ceremony where Cristiano Ronaldo is highly tipped to receive his fifth award. He added in his evidence that having to speak to the court was going to "spoil the ceremony".

Following Mendes, his nephew Luis Correia and attorney Osorio de Castro were next to speak to the court being able to carry out their defence from neighbouring Portugal through a legal agreement between both nations.

14.7 million euro

The Spanish tax body, Hacienda are investigating Cristiano Ronaldo as they claim the player defrauded his returns to the tune of 14.768.897,40 euros between the years of 2011 and 2014: e 2011 (1,4 million), 2012 (1,6 million), 2013 (3,2 million) and 2014 (8,5 million). The player refutes the accusation and refused to come to a deal with the tax agency preferring to challenge the claim via respected lawyer José Antonio Choclán.

The player from Madeira sustains the situation has been brought about due to "naivety from his representatives" due to an "ambiguous interpretation of the law".
