Three Spanish footballers who play for Arandina, a team in Group VIII of the Spanish Third Division were detained yesterday, Monday, on suspicion of sexual assault, according to Spanish radio station Cadena SER.

The three players were held by police overnight after the victim filed a complaint with police in Madrid. The incident, which took place in Aranda de Duero in the north of Spain 10 days ago, may have been recorded and then shared by the suspects, according to sources close to them who spoke to news agency Efe.

Three footballers detained

As of Tuesday lunchtime it's known that Spanish police detained, in their house in Aranda de Duero two of the suspects: Carlos Cuadrado Santos, 'Lucho', and Víctor Rodríguez Ramos, 'Viti', striker and goalkeeper at the club. The other suspect, Raúl Calvo Hernández, who shares the same house with the other two and plays up front for Arandina, handed himself in to police later voluntarily.

Police searching suspects' house

The investigation into the alleged sexual assault is in its preliminary stages, and the three are yet to make a declaration to an investigating magistrate, though that is expected in the near future. The investigating magistrate will then decide how to proceed with the case.

According to Efe the police were searching the footballers' house early on Tuesday afternoon.

The club have released a statement saying that the matter has "nothing to do with football or the club".
