Real Madrid striker Gareth Bale made an explosive come back from injury, coming on as a substitute for Benzema in the 80th minute and scoring with his first touch to put Real Madrid into the lead.

Real Madrid struggled against Al Jazira

Zidane's side had been making heavy weather of the tie up to that point, failing to take their chances and falling behind to outsiders Al Jazira in the first half from a Romarinho goal well against the run of play, before a Ronaldo effort had got them level after 54 minutes.

The introduction of Bale though settled the Real Madrid fans' nerves who had begun to think their team might be taken to extra time by Al Jazira.
