Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has described 2017 as "intense" with "complex episodes and difficulties", which the Barcelona board of directors have tried to solve with "calmness".

At the traditional Christmas dinner with the media, Barca's chief executive reviewed the issues that the club have had to deal with in the last 12 months including the Neymar exit and the Catalonia situation.

"It has been an intense year, and before these difficulties we have acted, together, with calmness. From saying goodbye to Luis Enrique to the signing of Valverde and the renewals of players like Iniesta and Messi and the exit of Neymar or the process that Catalonia went through that affected us all," he said during his speech.

Bartomeu said they faced "complex episodes and difficulties" and said they tried to solve them "in the best possible manner" before wishing everyone a Happy Christmas and trusted that 2018 would be "equal or better" than last year.
