REAL MADRID-BARCELONA

Barça dominate Real Madrid in attacking statistics ahead of Clásico

Ernesto Valverde's LaLiga-topping side has been more effective in attack than Madrid this season, but Zidane's outfit are tight at the back.

Barcelona go in to El Clásico at the Bernabéu on Saturday with a set of statistics far superior to that of Real Madrid.

Messi and co. sharper in front of goal

Ernesto Valverde’s team have the advantage in terms of the attacking numbers: goals scored and shot efficiency. Barcelona have scored 42 goals from 195 shots in LaLiga this season, while Madrid have needed 221 shots to score 30 goals. In other words, Barça have been more effective in front of the opposition goal, scoring one goal for every 4.6 shots. Real Madrid have scored one goal every 7.3 shots.

The Blaugrana also hold the advantage in other aspects of attack. They have completed more passes (10,576-8,852) passes than their Clásico rival, and have also had more possession (64.11%-62.3%). Interestingly, both teams favour attacks on opposite sides of the pitch. Barcelona generally launch attacking moves on the right flank (37%) while Madrid play through Marcelo on the left (43%).

Real Madrid miserly

Real Madrid show themselves to be stronger in defence. Zinedine Zidane’s team have conceded less corners (49-61), less shots on goal (52-17), and have made more interceptions than Barça.

On an individual level, all eyes will be fixed upon Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The Argentine is way ahead in the LaLiga scoring stakes (14-4), but when it comes to titles throughout their careers, the pair are neck-and-neck.
