"Kepa has to put in a transfer request and pay his buy-out" says Athletic Club president Urrutia
Athletic Club president Josu Urrutia declared that the Basque club have not been contacted “by any means" by Real Madrid for Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Athletic Club president Josu Urrutia gave a press conference this morning in which he referred to Kepa Arrizabalaga's contract renewal and the rumours placing him in Real Madrid's orbit.
Athlétic have "explored every avenue" to persuade Kepa to renew
Urrutia announced that the club has made an offer to goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to renew his contract, and that offer meets all of the requirements set out by the player's agents. “We are aware of what is being said in the media and until he tells us that he doesn't want to renew, then all signs so far have been positive”. the Athletic president said, before adding: “We have explored every single avenue, every possibility to ensure that Kepa stays here with us and we hope that he will do the same”.
Real Madrid have not been in touch for Kepa
As for Real Madrid, Urrutia confirmed that, “They have not contacted us but we know about the rumours which have been circulating. As far as we are aware, Kepa hasn't received any offers - that's what his agent has told us”. He went on to point out: “If Kepa decides to leave, he must put in a transfer request and deposit his buy-out fee. The process of coming to an agreement with Kepa has been going on for the past 15 months. Both parties have been trying to reach a common ground as to what the other wants and a month ago we seemed to have to come close to that, we are at a standstill at the moment and waiting for him to tell us yes or no”.
