Guedes: Real Madrid eyeing Valencia's on-loan PSG winger
Real are weighing up making an offer for the Paris Saint-Germain starlet. Valencia have been quoted 40m euros by the French giants.
Real Madrid are interested in signing Valencia's Gonçalo Guedes, who is on loan at Los Che from Paris Saint-Germain, according to a report first published by OK Diario and confirmed by Diario AS. However, a potential Real swoop for Guedes remains at a very early stage, with Los Blancos yet to make any kind of firm move.
Paris thought to have asked Valencia for 40m euros
Meanwhile, Valencia have taken concrete steps towards holding on to the Portugal international winger, who has excelled since moving to Mestalla. It is thought that a fee of around 40 million euros has been proposed by PSG, who are keen to include a buy-back clause allowing them to recover Guedes' services if his encouraging form in Spain so far is followed by his definitive explosion.
Real Madrid can expect PSG to drive a harder bargain
What is less clear is whether PSG would quote the same asking price to Real Madrid, who the Ligue 1 club consider a natural predator and who would be unlikely to accept the inclusion of a buy-back clause. It is also far from certain that PSG would be willing to sell the player to a direct competitor, despite the threat of exclusion from European competitions if they breach Uefa's 'financial fair play' rules.
Spectre of FFP sanctions means PSG need to raise funds
PSG need to raise between 80 and 90 million euros from player sales by 30 June, when they are due to pay the 180-million-euro fee required to make striker Kylian Mbappé's initial loan move from Monaco permanent.
Guedes, who is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes, was bought by Paris Saint-Germain from first club Benfica for 30 million euros 12 months ago, making 11 appearances for the French capital club before being loaned to Valencia in the summer. He has proved a hit at Mestalla, scoring six goals and supplying three assists, and quickly becoming a fans' favourite.
