Rubén Semedo facing jail term for threatening bouncer with gun
According to a report in regional daily Las Provincias, prosecutors are seeking a two-year sentence for the Portuguese defender after alleged incident at night club.
Valencia regional daily Las Provincias reported over the weekend that Villarreal defender Rubén Semedo could face a two-year custodial sentence after an incident at a night club in Valencia during which he is alleged to have threatened an employee with a firearm.
Las Provincias stated that, based on the testimony of the employee, Semedo brandished a pistol during an argument at the night club in question at 8:30am last November 17. The pair had clashed inside the club prior to the incident and the employee alleges that Semedo approached him again and told him to "phone security" as he dialled for help on his mobile. The player then allegedly took the phone from the employee's hand and threw it to the floor before warning him: "If you call the police I'll come back for you."
Semedo facing charge of aggravated threatening behaviour
The Public Prosecutor is treating the incident as a possible case of aggravated threatening behaviour and if the decision is made to undertake legal proceedings, Semedo, who is currently injured, could face a jail sentence of two years and a restraining order preventing him from coming with 100 metres of the alleged victim and the night club where the incident is reported to have taken place.
Villarreal manager Javi Calleja was quoted by Portuguese daily O Jogo confirming that the incident is under investigation. The pistol Semedo is alleged to have been in possession of at the time has not been recovered by police.
