Diego Godín: Atlético staff sent to look for Uruguayan's teeth on Wanda Metropolitano pitch

In the 49th minute of Atlético Madrid's victory over top-four rival Valencia, Diego Godín hurled himself towards a cross on the edge of the six-yard box and collided with Neto, the opposition 'keeper.

Godín out for three weeks after surgery

The Uruguayan defender immediately left the pitch with the club's medical staff, blood pouring from his mouth, and three fewer teeth than when he started the match.

Godín suffered a triple fracture to his jawbone and underwent reconstructive surgery on Monday. He is expected to be sidelined for three weeks.

Atleti staff sent out on the hunt

But what became of the three stray teeth? According to El Periódico, Atleti medical staff and dental specialists ordered club employees to return to the area of the pitch where the clash took place to search for Godín's teeth. The reason being, when teeth are knocked out it is sometimes possible to replant them. They generally have a 'life' outside the mouth of about 24 hours, if conserved in a glass of milk.

It is unknown if the staff managed to find the teeth upon conclusion of the match. But heavy snow on Sunday and Monday will not have made their task easier.
