Di María: "Cristiano is excellent, but Messi is an extra-terrestrial"
Ángel Di María extolled the virtues of Leo Messi on TyC Sports programe Líbero and looked ahead to next week's Champions League run-in with Real Madrid.
Ángel di María was a special guest on TyC Sports programme Líbero today, and among the many topics he discussed, were the qualities of Argentina team mate Leo Messi and next week's Champions League first leg clash between PSG and Real Madrid.
Di María admits Barcelona interest
The future: "I came close to joining Barcelona but that didn't end up happening - for football reasons. I've started 2018 well and I'm very happy. It was always my dream to play in Europe - now it's to return one day to Rosario Central".
Laughing to deal with criticism: "The attacks aimed at players in the national team and the memes can be quite hurtful. They hurt and make you think a lot. You suffer and your family suffers. If I have ever thought about quitting, it's because of that. But my psycologicist has helped me to look at them in a different way. The people who are behinf those things, it's the only thing they know how to do but I can hold me head up high and not take them too seriously".
Messi from another planet
National team: "Argentina are at the level of Germany or Spain in terms of high-profile players and ambitions. Sampaoli wants me to keep close to Leo. I much prefer setting up goals to scoring myself anyway. We have reached three finals and only missed out through bad luck, not for a lack of commitment".
Messi: "There are no words to describe Leo. He will always surprise you. One year on and Messi is the best, another year goes by and he's still the best; he's a player from another planet - an extra-terrestrial".
Cristiano: "Cristiano is an excellent player. Being around at the same time as Messi has made it much more difficult for him".
Giovani Lo Celso: "He's in a great moment of form. All of Argentina's internationals are playing to a high level right now".
