1,300 police officers will be deployed on Thursday evening to ensure that the high-risk match between Atlético Madrid and Lokomotiv Moscow in the Europa League passes without incident.

500 Lokomotiv supporters expected

Around 500 supporters are expected to be at the Wanda Metropolitano to support the Russian side, and they will arrive at the stadium accompanied by police.

A total of 45,000 people are expected to attend the match, which has been declared high risk by the State Commission against Violence. The police will be positioned around the stadium and will also follow the Russian supporters’ movements through the Spanish capital during the day. These measures are similar to those taken when Atleti faced Roma in the Champions League earlier this season.

"Bilbao is not Madrid"

Concepción Dancausa, a government delegate, has appealed to supporters to “enjoy the sporting contest without incident and with exemplary behavior.”

Dancausa also stated that “Bilbao is not Madrid,” in reference to the violence between supporters of Athletic Club and Spartak Moscow when the two sides met in the Europa League.
