Axel Werner: "I'm happy at Atlético, whether I play or not"
The young Argentine goalkeeper made his debut for Atlético de Madrid in Thursday's 3-0 Europa League first leg win over Lokomotiv at the Wanda.
Axel Werner spoke to the media after making his debut for Atlético de Madrid this evening. The young Argentine goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet as Simeone's side took a 3-0 advantage in their Europa League first leg against Lokomotiv at the Wanda Metropolitano.
As it tuns out you made your debut in the Europa League, although you didn't have much to do on the night....
I'm here to play when the team needs me, and lend a hand whenever I have to. I thought the team played well tonight, the defence did a great job and that was the reason why I didn't have much to do. Since the moment I arrived I have always been shown support by my team mates and it's down to me to respond to the work we are doing.
Oblak out with a groin injury
You might be called on again for Sunday's game against Celta...
I don't know. Hopefully Oblak will be back as soon as possible. He's one of the best keeprs in Europe and hopefully, for the team's sake, his injury is nothing serious.
For the fans who don't know much about you, what can you tell us about yourself?
Right since the day I came here, the technical staff have shown faith in me. I'm had at Atlético, both when I am called on to play and when it's someone else's turn.
Advice from the masters
Which goalkeepers do you model yourself on?
I like to learn from the best. I am learning a lot from Oblak and I have to keep learning as it a continuous process. I'm 22 and at that age, you are leaning new things every day.
