Sampaoli taking no risks - Messi to be rested against Italy
Following fresh tests on the player's adductor, Sampaoli has decided not to take any risks with the Barcelona ace who is likely to sit out tonight's friendly in Manchester.
Lionel Messi underwent one final fitness test in Manchester on Thursday to see whether the problems he has been suffering with his adductor would keep him out of tonight's friendly against Italy. After studying the results of the test, Argentina's medical staff advised that it would be better if the Barça forward sits out the game.
Argentina taking no risks with Messi
Jorge Sampaoli had already mentioned in his pre-match press conference that Messi had been carrying a sprain and was doubtful for the friendly at the Etihad in Manchester. The player has taken part in training but it seems he is unlikely to be risked tonight. Argentina's coaching staff will not force Messi to play but instead will see how he feels in the hours running up to the match. Barcelona are keeping a close watch on the situation as they will be counting on Messi for the forthcoming Champions League quarter final against Roma.
