World champion Lewis Hamilton is set to take a five-place grid penalty at Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix following a gearbox change on his Mercedes late Friday, his team and race stewards announced.

Four-time world champion Hamilton had wound up fourth fastest earlier in second free practice session at the Bahrain International Circuit behind Ferrari duo Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel and Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas.
