BARCELONA

Ronaldo explains why he left Barcelona for Inter Milan

The Brazilian said Inter Milan provided the best challenge for him and that Serie A was the best in the world at the time and he could not turn it down.

Update:

Ronaldo exploded on the scene with Barcelona during the 86-97 season when he scored 34 goals in 37 games. The Brazilian was not long for the Camp Nou, however, and he left after one year with the club.

After that season, in which Ronaldo helped Barça to a Cup Winner's Cup, a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup, he moved to Italy. His numbers weren't as good as those in Barcelona but they weren't far off as he landed 25 goals in 32 games. Shortly after, the injuries started.

In an interview with the Serie A club's television station, Ronaldo explains why he left Barça for Inter saying, "I was negotiating my renewal with Barcelona but I decided not to continue because I lost confidence in the directors at Barça."

It was after that decision that Inter Milan arrived on the scene with interest and he says he could not refuse. "Inter appeared at that moment and it was a fantastic challenge. Then, the Italian championship was the best in the world and the most difficult. It was the best decision that I could make," he finished.

He remained there until 2002 when he did the unthinkable and moved to Real Madrid but not before winning a UEFA Cup with the Italian side.
