Barcelona ready to sign Leipzig central defender Upamecano

According to French media, Barça are looking to strengthen at the back and are willing to pay 100 million euros to stave off Man United, Milan, Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

FC Barcelona are looking to reinforce their defence for next season and Dayot Upamecano looks to be a name that is being considered.

Following the departure of the versatile Javier Mascherano, as well as doubts over the renewal of Umtiti and the lack of confidence that has been shown in both Vermaelen and Yerry Mina, the 19-year old currently shining for RB Leizpig in the Bundesliga is a key target. This is according to Telefoot. He was one of the names on the short-list of defenders previously reported.

The French media outlet reports that Barcelona are willing to pay up to 100 million euros to take French defensive player, however are conscious that other clubs are also keeping close tabs on the development of one of Europe's most promising youngsters, including Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Arsenal and Milan.

Up and coming Upamecano

Upamecano arrived at RB Leizpig from RB Salzburg in January 2017 for 10 million euros and has evolved his game to the point that he's seen as one of the most impressive centre halves in the Bundesliga. This season, the defender has played 35 matches in all competitions (Bundesliga, Champions League group stage, Europa League knock-out and German Cup) and has secured himself as one of the first names on Ralph Hasenhüttl's teamsheet.

The lad from Évreux has a contract until June 2021 and, for now, says he is "happy in Leizpig" although in statements to Telefoot has opened the door to a possible exit. "My preference at the moment is to continue in Leipzig, then we'll see."
