Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone is set to watch the Europa League final from the stands after being given a four-match touchline ban by Uefa over his sending-off at Arsenal.

Atlético preparing to appeal Simeone punishment

However, Atlético are to appeal the punishment, which was announced on Friday evening.

Simeone was dismissed after remonstrating with referee Clément Turpin in last week's semi-final first leg against the Gunners, which saw Atleti earn a 1-1 draw despite Sime Vrsaljko's early red card for two bookings.

European football's governing body found him guilty of "improper conduct" and "insulting a match official", and have also fined him 10,000 euros.

Simeone has already served one match of his touchline ban

Simeone served the first game of his ban in Thursday's last-four return against Arsenal, in which Diego Costa's goal secured Atlético's place in the final in Lyon, where they will meet Olympique Marseille.

If Atlético win the Europa League and qualify for the Uefa Super Cup, Simeone will also be confined to the stands for the continental curtain-raiser in Tallinn.
