Ángel Di Maria has been offered to Atlético Madrid, according to a report on Spanish radio show El Larguero.
The Argentina international hinted in an interview with France Football earlier in May that he may have to seek his fortune elsewhere with Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Edinson Cavani firmly installed as PSG’s preferred front three, although whether or not the Brazilian will remain at the Parc des Princes next season is open to question.
In any case, Di María seems to have assumed that he will be surplus to requirements in the French capital next year and said during the same interview: “The club needs to bring in players and to do that they will have to sell others.”
Diego Simeone an admirer of Di María
Di María enjoyed a successful four-season spell at the Bernabéu before leaving for Manchester United, where he lasted just a season before decamping to PSG.
And Diego Simeone is a firm admirer of the 30-year-old winger, noting before his Atlético side faced Real in the 2014 Spanish Super Cup that the Argentinean “is Real Madrid’s best player, their most unpredictable attacking player.”
With Antoine Griezmann’s future up in the air, Atlético are combing the market for potential replacements, including Di María’s PSG teammate Cavani and Espanyol’s Gerard Moreno. Di María presents a known entity and with his contract at the Parc des Princes expiring in 2019 he could be available at a decent rate in the summer.
