Robert Lewandowski said goodbye to the fans in unforgettable fashion. It felt almost like a bullfighter’s grand farewell, the only thing missing being a victory lap with trophies held aloft. The Polish striker could not hold back his emotions on several occasions, especially as the crowd thunderously chanted his name around the stadium.

Even before kickoff against Betis, the veteran forward was the center of attention, and he knew it. When he stepped onto the field to warm up, he received the first ovation of the night. During the starting lineup announcements, the stadium announcer deliberately paused for several seconds after saying “Lewandowski,” giving fans time to erupt in applause. The crowd sang his name again the first time he touched the ball, and even louder when he came close to scoring.

Hansi Flick wanted him to leave with his confidence and pride soaring, substituting him late in the match so he could receive one final tribute from the supporters.

After the final whistle, emotions that had been building for weeks finally overflowed. Lewandowski walked toward midfield, visibly emotional, to receive yet another standing ovation from the fans. His teammates took the opportunity to toss him into the air in celebration.

Once he came back down, Rafa Yuste and Joan Laporta were waiting with a commemorative trophy honoring his career, embracing him warmly as they presented it.

Lewandowski’s speech to the Camp Nou

Watched closely by his wife and children, the Polish star took the microphone to thank the fans for their overwhelming affection.

“For me, this is a very emotional and difficult day. When I arrived in Barcelona, I knew this club was huge, but your support has been incredible. From the very beginning, I felt at home here. I will never forget hearing you chant my name. Thanks to my teammates, the coaches and everyone who works at the club. It has been an honor to play for Barça. We have shared great moments during these four years. I’m very proud of everything we achieved. Today I say goodbye to this stadium, but Barça will always remain in my heart. Visca el Barça and Visca Catalunya.”

After the speech, the entire squad gave him one last tribute, forming a guard of honor that ended with a series of playful slaps to the back of the head from teammates.

It was the perfect ending to a celebration Lewandowski will never forget. Neither will the fans. Half an hour after the match ended, crowds were still gathered outside the stadium chanting his name.
