Riazor president Carlos Mouriño is prepared to listen to offers at the €40m mark but the Spain striker would prefer to stay at his boyhood club.

Valencia, Atlético and Napoli are among the potential suitors for Spain striker Iago Aspas this summer after the 30-year-old’s prolific season at Celta but there is a difference of opinion as to his availability between the player and his president.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, Aspas made his stance plain: “Everybody seems to be want me but I only belong to my mother. For me Celta has always been the biggest club in the world. I’m happy here, with my family, my people, my friends…”

However, Carlos Mouriño, who has an eye on the club’s books, took a different approach to possible bids for his star player this summer, stating that any clubs who were interested would have to meet Aspas’ 40-million-euro minimum release clause, “because the Celta fans would never forgive and the club would never allow a situation to evolve where he left for less than that amount.” Mouriño also spoke of Valencia and Atlético as two clubs who are “friends” with Celta.

Aspas "bigger than Celta": Mouriño

With Daniel Wass eyeing the exit door this summer, Celta face another situation similar to when they lost star forward Nolito to Manchester City and club captain Augusto Fernández to Atlético shortly afterwards.

But Mouriño insists that the club’s aim is to “help Iago, which we will always do. There are players that are bigger than the club and we’re not embarrassed to recognise that in this instance.”
