Mercedes trial LED rear lights to help in wet conditions
British driver Lewis Hamilton has been around the Barcelona Cataluña track on his Mercedes w09 testing out the new look warning device.
Novelty: something that is new, that didn't exist before, that has not been used or was not previously known. This is a definition that helps characterise the activities carried out by the Formula 1 teams over the testing days that take place during a season.
New Mercedes lighting trial
On this occasion, on the first day of testing following the 2018 Spanish Grand Prix, Mercedes has incorporated a new lighting system into the W09 of Lewis Hamilton. Designed to improve visibility in the case of bad weather conditions, two vertical red lights have been added within the rear wing end plates.
The trial by Mercedes is in conjunction with the FIA and if deemed mandatory could come into play next year.
