David Silva prepares for World Cup with third-tier Navalcarnero
The Manchester City midfielder will build up his fitness with Navalcarnero, of the Segunda B, as Julen Lopetegui is friends with their coach Julian Calero.
David Silva will prepare for the World Cup by training with CDA Navalcarnero, of the Spanish third division.
Silva low on match fitness
Silva played a limited role in the closing stages of Manchester City’s Premier League title win, as his premature-born son had to remain in hospital. The new member of the Silva family has since been discharged from hospital, and ‘El Mago’ will travel to Madrid to train with Navalcarnero, just outside the Spanish capital.
This arrangement has come about because Julen Lopetegui’s assistant coach during his time at Porto, Julian Calero, is currently in charge at Navalcarnero.
Calero’s side pushed hard for promotion from Segunda B this season, and those performances convinced Lopetegui that they are at an adequate level for Silva to train with.
Intensity will help Silva
Ten Navalcarnero players will train with Silva: Isma Gil, Víctor Pascual, José Antonio Serrano, Luis Acosta, Fran García, Cifo, Sergio Molina, Javier Llario, Edgar Agudo, and Joaquín Cerdá.
Joaquín Cerdá, the team’s top scorer, revealed his delight to AS:
“You can imagine how delighted we are. We pleased because it’s a reward for the season the team have had. You’ve got to enjoy it.
“Lopetegui needs players who are match fit, like us, and he needs Silva to be with players of a certain level. We play with high intensity and that will help him.”
